The Waste
We Leave

I was going through my Dropbox, freeing up space, and I thought about all those tests, backup files, and WIPs we’ve produced and left there, just wasting space. I started thinking about all those pieces we don’t see that didn’t make it to the final cut, but are still there around as waste.

This is another Houdini exploration. I used mainly Cloth and ShapeMatch constraints from Vellum. Although I lit, textured, and finished it in C4D, which is still my main tool.

UNWELDING

I just thought about breaking the shave as it flies away at the last minute, when I saw a render. Without breaking, it looked kind of boring. Thanks to MOPs for making the transition so easy. 

I’ve been approaching these personal projects as an improv process. I usually start with an idea, often triggered by an image I saw. Since I don’t know what the end or path this will take, I sometimes overwork the riggings and environments, only to never use them at the end… More waste, I think.

The Sound Design

I used the render time to create the sound design. And yes, I did it in After Effects. I hope nobody finds it an aberration 🫣.
